It had been a hellish day in the Auror office. Taxxi, who had now been given the status of fully qualified Auror was exahusted. (She had not taken the Auror test. Nobody had, due to the war and everything. Aurors wee being automatically give their full rank to ensure there were plenty of people to fight the good fight in the Ministry's name)
The week had been long and busy; calls to tragic scenes of Death Eater crimes, and always the Dark Mark hovering over the house in question, twinkling innocently. Taxxi felt sick to think about the last house she'd been called to go to. A small cottage in the middle of a Welsh village - the door had been shattered and all remained was splinters. The Muggle-born witch and her half blooded husband had been slaughtered, not by the killing curse, but with more terrible methods. They were obviously tortured first. Their children hadn't been spared either. A seven year old boy with eyes still open in horror lay next to the cot of his infant sister, who had been screaming when Taxxi arrived.
The surviving child was now in the care of a wizard family who lived near by. Taxxi had taken her to them ith tears stinging in her eyes; then she had returned to the devistated house to do her duties. Find out what had happened.
That had not bene the worst of it. Other Aurors had seen worse scenes. Apparently there was a mass killing in Ipswich, where seventeen Muggles had been torn apart by, what was rumoured to be, three angry trolls. The Muggle newspapers claimed it was 'some sort of gas explosion'.
But now Taxxi was off duty. Walking through the corridors towards the elevator, she hitched her bag up on her shoulder and wished that she could wipe certain memories away. It was almost deserted now - most Minstry people were either working later than Tax or had already gone home to spend precious time wiht thier loved ones. Taxxi didn't have precious family to go back home to, so stood on the street, feeling the cool air on her face. She didn't feel like going home, but wandering alone at night wasn't a good plan either. But still she stayed, looking up at the night sky, almost as if she was waiting for somebody...

"You lost?" Nathan said in between drags, his flicked what remained of his cigarrette to the ground. It's stupid really when you think about it, you'd think that the ministry would have some sort of magical something to kill the smoke so it didn't bother anyone, he rubbed it out with the toe of his black boots.
"Don't I know you?" he paused, of course he did she was the woman with the Vampire, he had thought she might have been crazy then, to think anything could hold that monster was naive. He pulled another cigarrette, offering one to Taxxi, afterall it was rude not to. He could have flicked his fingers and lit it, but instead he pulled a muggle lighter out of his pocket.
"What brings you outside the great and "safe" walls of the ministry" he smirked, this place was as corrupted and screwed up as any, but some people didn't know that. Some people beleived it would save them. Nathan was only working their as a Vampire specailist so he could track the beasts better, not that he didn't kill deatheaters and dark wizards too, he just preferred the hunt of creatures to magic flinging dirty wrecks who he usually assocaited with the dark arts.

She did not recognise him at first, and her instinct made her wand hand tighten around the handle. But she paused when she finally had a better look at the man who had distrupted her flow of thoughts. The Vampire Slayer who had mocked her in front of that Zaine guy. Taxxi paused before accepting the cigarette, letting him light it for her.
"Evening." Taxxi replied softly in reply, taking a drag on the cigarette "It's a nice night. Shame the whole of the country is in such a sorry state." She tilted her head skywards for a moment before looking back at Nathan, leaning against the wall casually.
"We met, briefly. You pissed off a Vampire I was questioning... I'm Jules. But call me Taxxi. And don't make a joke about Muggle cars, or I might have to cut off my own ears" She said, her wit dry but her twitch of a smile indicating she was only teasing him. She never really seemed to hit it off with men. They always thought so little of her, and then were stunned by her abilities. She hated people who judged before they knew what she could do. Muggle men were the same. And somehow she had always ended up going for the 'wrong' type before now.
Taxxi took a long drag on the cigarette, her dark eyes observing Nathan King, wondering why he had approached her. Most Ministry people outside of Auror department stayed away. Rumours were a terrible thing.

Nathan only nodded slightly, the country was in a terrible state, this was true, but he came here to escape the ministry and the idiots who claimed to be helping. "Hmmm, would be a shame to see you cut your ears off, not sure my stomach could handle that so I'll refrain", he said simply, "and that Vampire... is always pissed off" Nathan shrugged. "The only time i've ever seen him not pissed off was when he had his teeth sunk deep into a pretty girl", he closed his eyes for a moment, those memories didn't go away either. "I've been tracking him for a few months now, he's a natural escape artist and has a bad taste for young girls, especailly pretty ones like yourself".
"Nathan.. King" he said quickly, "Nate, Nathan, King, whatever you feel like calling me if anything at all". He turned to look at her for a moment. "You still didn't asnwer my question, Taxxi, What brings you out here?"

"I don't think cutting off my ears would be an entirely pleasurable experience either." She commented with a trace of a smirk about her lips. However when mentioning the Vampire and how he had a taste from young women, Taxxi merely laughed. "I can look after myself, especially against a Vampire who doesn't understand that my threats are not idle." The young woman said with a hint of sharpness, before taking another pull on the cigarette and blowing out a tiny smoke ring.
"They're all the same, Death Eaters, no matter what their species. All arrogant, all idiotic, all think they're the closest to their 'Dark Lord'. He's using them and they don't even know it. People like that are not to be feared, but pitied" And with a soft sigh, Jules dragged her free hand through her long dark hair. After several moments silence on her part, she spoke again
"I'll stick with Nathan. King makes you sound like a cock..." Taxxi was smiling again. She had a dark, sarcastic humour, that was for sure.
"I'm just here.. You think I should be safely tucked up somewhere? Maybe I should. What about you? Did you see a damsel in distress or something?"

Nathan smiled, "No plenty of damsels of course but it seems none of are in distress as of this moment, so alas I am without a career, being the handsome prince I am of course" he was tempted to roll his eyes, but refrained.
He didn't doubt her ability to take care of herself against other magical things, but vampires... were of a different breed. "You see that is where you are wrong Miss Taxxi" he said seriously, "They're not stupid, and they dont desire anything from Voldemort, but a good time and to see some bloodshed along the way, these are creatures who've lived for centuries and what happens in the mortal world only concerns them when they feel it necessary, they don't play by the same rules, and they are by no means deatheaters, they may ally themselves with them, but they could care less about causes". Ok so maybe he was sounding like an ass, but it was true, and the sooner she realized that maybe she wouldn't be so ready to sit alone in a room with one with only bars and magic to protect her.
"No ma'am" he acted if he was tipping his hat, "Definetly no damsels in distress here". He mimicked the old American cowboys that he had grown up with. "Next time I see one, i'll let you know though", he started, "Maybe you could talk some sense into her". This woman certainly was quick, and not only that, but she could probably cast circles around Nathan, but his pride would never allow him to back down.

Taxxi listened to his little lecture about Vampires, but when he finished she simply pulled back one side of her jacket to reveal two silver objects, which looked ordinarily like cigar holders. She took one out and with the tap of her wand it made an odd clanking sound and a large spike errupted from one end. "You think I'm not prepared" She said, not as a question, but a statement. "This has worked before, on a werewolf and a vampire. Cost me a bloody fortune though. Had to downgrade my broomstick for these two" Taxxi said, holding the stake out to him to observe.
"How about you send me a Patronus if you see anything suspicious? I'll be there in a flash." The young woman said with a grin. Of course, there were very few people who actually contacted others via Patronus. It was a little difficult to master, getting the Patronus to the right person and such. "My Patronus is a snow leopard" Tax added. "What's yours?"

"It takes more then a fancy silver stake" Nathan shrugged, "I've been training to kill them since I first saw them", a chill ran up his spine. Nathan hunted them, he had seen more vampires then deatheaters honestly. He had killed more too.
At the question of his patronus Nathan fumbled for a moment, a snow lepord, how fitting. "Mines.." he paused, "It's a goldfish" unfortunetly when he had first learn patronus's was also the same time he had pet goldfish and he thought it was clever at the time. Not that he would consider sending her a patronus, he had enough people risking thier lives with him every day he didn't need to add one more to the list.
"Anyway", he said changing the subject a little "I wasn't there to get information from Zaine.. I was there to kill it".

Taxxi wondered how ol this man was. He seemed relatively young by the looks of him, no older than thirty that was for sure. And yet he spoke as if he'd seen the world. She shook her head to herself. He liked the sound of his own voice too by the seems of it. The young woman shrugged. "Well, if you think I need extra protection, then you should find a way to keep tabs on me. You might be surprised though. I might find myself in plenty of sticky situations but I always find ways out of them too"
Taking a last drag on the cigarette, she smiled, stubbing out the butt with her heel on the ground. With nothing to do with her ands, Taxxi took out her wand and twiddled it between her slender fingers, a habbit she had never grown out of. When he mentioned his Patronus' form, she had to bite her tongue not to laugh "A goldfish?" She asked, her eyebrows raising a little. "How.. Interesting.." But she said nothing more, clearly not wanting to offend Nathan any more than she probably alreay had done that night.
"Thats why I was most pissed off when you stormed in with all your pent up angst. My boss wasn't happy and I was the one who got the bollocking of a life time. Not that I care, but surely keeping a Vampire locked up is better than letting it roam the streets of London" Taxxi said softly, not caring to remember the circumstances in which Nathan and she had met previously.
"Is it just me, or does standing on a street corner seem a bit pointless? Should we go for a drink to continue our pleasant discussion of current affairs?"

"Ya... seemed like a good idea when I was first learning it", he stammered a bit, "Course doesn't exactly scare the deatheaters like a giant viscous cat." he frowned, maybe he should have made another choice.
"Well the plan was to kill it, just I couldn't do that exactly with people watching", he shrugged, "Ministry gets all angry and whatnot when you kill their prisoners, their employees oh sure take your pick, but you kill a prisoner your head is on the chopping block, bastards are safer then we are", he said anger filling his tone.
Nathan threw what was left of his smoke on the ground and stubbed it out with the foot of his shoe. "Drink sounds good".

Taxxi frowned slightly. Patronus' could change. Maybe his would in time. It depended on the person and a lot of the time, also depended on their emotional state.
"You heard about Amelia Bones and her family yet? Most of them were killed the day Hogwarts started back up. The Bones family have been almost pure blood thoughtout.. I don't understand why Death Eaters would want them all dead. It seems so pointless." She sighed a little. There had been so many deaths, so many brilliant witches and wizards killed. And not to mention the Muggles.
"And this stupid Muggleborn list.. Every muggle born has to now be put on some register.. Might as well hand the Death Eaters their heads on a silver plate" Taxxi frowned before running a hand through her hair.
"Drink it is. Come on, we'll go to a Muggle place."

"Bones", Nate frowned, "Nope haven't heard", he tended to stay away from news of the wizarding world, for one it was depressing and two he had other things on his mind, "But the register..." he cut off, he had heard of it, he was pretty sure he'd be one of the people on it. Strange thing this was world was coming to.
"Makes one wonder how much they can trust their own ministry, as for me on a silver platter the deatheaters better hope they never get to my name on that list, let them come", he said boldly. The strange part was he wasn't just boasting, he would fight them all until he died, say what you want about Nathan King, but after hunting Vampires and other creatures of the dark he wasn't afraid of death, just afraid of ending up like them.
"Muggle place sounds good", he admitted, they were always more cheery, worrying about the economy and stock market, and which world leader had nuclear power now, nothing that needed to concern Nathan.

A smile twitched on her face before she ran a hand through her hair, shrugging off the comment about the Bones family. It was always the case, in Muggle and Wizarding media alike, that the public wanted to read about dispair, devestation and disaster with their morning coffee. It seemed that Voldemort and the Daily Prophet were giving the public what they needed.
"I know a little place. It's only down the next street." Taxxi said, looking at Nathan for a moment before turning and heading down the street. She'd been acoustom to drinking in Muggle bars - for years she'd prefered it. Mainly because most Muggle guys were smart enough to know when she was out of bounds. Several wizards had made the mistake, and because she was allowed to do magic in front of follow wizards, they'd ended up worse for wear.
As they walked, she continued the conversation; "As far as I see it, this register is evidence tha Voldemort has wormed his way into the Ministry. I dont know if he's got people under Imperius, or whether he's actually got Death Eaters in the Ministry, but either way I don't trust anybody anymore." Her dark eyes darted about the deserted street before she turned a corner.
On the left a little way down the next street was a small Muggle pub, the Travellers Rest. She'd been her quite a few times, and so the locals had grown slightly used to her weird attire. Not many Muggles dared to make comment to Taxxi, but they often gave her strange looks when she walked into a place with her black boots, black jeans, black sorset type tops and black cloak.

Nathan followed after her for a moment before he fell in step next to her, "I'd bet anything its both... and not just lowly positions anymore, he seems to have his hand reaching almost all the way up to the minister himself", it was scary thought the ministry under deatheater control. They had infiltrated it for years of course, but to actually be openly accepting some of the things they were trying to pass. It was unsettling.
"Then again I don't technically work for the ministry, they just pull me in whenever a vampire is involved", he shrugged. He watched the muggle's eyes follow the strangely dressed Taxxi, well for their world at least. He saw nothing wrong with what she was wearing. Nathan was a bit better at fitting in, he wasn't as submerged into the wizarding world as most were and he'd like to keep it that way. Politics weren't usually his thing, but in these times, it seems they were everyones.

Because they were now in the company of Muggles, they had to be careful what they said. Most Muggles were pretty ignorant, but Taxxi had had awkward conversations before with the non-magic folk. "The problem is figuring out who's being forced to do the dirty work, and who wants to do it. Ministry security needs to be tightened a lot more.. I mean, it was only two years ago Potter and a bunch of kids got into the department of Mysteries.." She made her way to the bar and leaded agaisnt the woden surface. A middle aged man padded over and Taxxi smiled. "Vodka orange, and whatever my friend's having" She said. As the bartender toddled off to get her drink, Tax pulled out a piece of seemlingly blank parchment and tapped it discreetly with her wand. It turned into a ten pound note in the blink of an eye, which she used to pay for the drinks.
"I'm glad Fudge isn't in charge anymore. That man was a moron, but now I have to put up with that complete pleb they've bumped up to head of our department. I'm pretty certain he's under their thumb."
She took her drink and headed for a table furthest away from the bar, and sat. Taxxi wondered how many people had heard snipets of that conversation and were thinking 'What the Dickens are they talking about?'
